Do the things you DON'T want to do!

We've all been there. That overwhelming feeling of dread and anxiety that comes with facing something NEW or something that we just don't want to do. We make excuses and procrastinate, but most of the time it's not laziness. It's fear of failure or simply not knowing how to begin. 

We do things we don’t want to do for work and others;  but do we put the same effort into our personal growth?  So for the first time, I am saying, don't go easy on yourself; it's ok to do things you don't want to do.  

I recently worked with a client who couldn't seem to follow through on his weekly action steps. When I asked why he wasn't taking action, he simply replied, "I just don't want to do these things." But here's the truth: if we keep doing things the same way, nothing will ever change.

Some of his action steps included finding a new home and taking a Thai Chi class. We dug a little deeper and found that he was afraid of being judged for not being good at Thai Chi, and he was also scared of moving somewhere new and unfamiliar.

The first step was to acknowledge his fears and tell him that it was okay to be afraid. We did some breathwork around his fears, and then brought our FOCUS to the benefits and outcome of accomplishing those tasks. We visualized what it would be like to achieve those goals and cleared out any confusion and fear. Finally, he took those tiny first steps.

And you can do the same. Whether it's an old project, a work task, or a difficult conversation, you can face it. You'll feel a sense of pride and confidence that comes with overcoming your fears. AGAIN... remember that it’s ok to do things you don’t want to do. The more you face things you don't want to do, the easier it becomes and the more unstoppable you'll feel. Sure, it might be uncomfortable, but trust us, it's worth it.
